Why couldnt lennox lewis retire in style by giving vitali a rematch and beating him?

Lennox did not duck him.

I don't get why Lennox gets so much sh*t for not rematching Vitali. Lennox was almost 38 years old, and decided to go out on top.

I give him credit and respect for that. Of course I would've loved to see a rematch with Vitali, it would've been HUGE, but Lennox made a smart decision and didn't over stay his welcome.

Lewis was not scared of either Klitschko he had been in the sport for as long as he wanted and won the fights that he needed to win to be the undisputed champ. He chose to retire because there was nothing left for him to prove. He did not need a rematch to prove anything

At the time of the stoppage Lennox Lewis was down on the judges scorecards 56-58 which is roughly two rounds, however, fans tend to have this exaggerated perception that Lewis was some how being dominated before stopping Klitschko. Some fans act as if Lewis doesn't deserve to retire whenever he wants.

Lennox Lewis has beaten every fighter he's ever stepped into the ring with and even the fighters that defeated him eventually lost in rematches. It's unfair to say he "ducked" Klitschko because he fought him and won by stoppage.

Lewis didn't get a stoppage by not hitting him. Klitschko was getting hit with punches that were busting up his face and eventually he bled out and the fight was stopped, that's not a "duck" by any means. Ray Leonard never got Marvin Hagler again, it doesn't tarnish a legacy just some guys never face each other again.

Why did he need to give him a rematch.....

despite what blo-hard reporters say, there was never any point in that fight where Vitali dominated or had Lewis hurt....in fact, outside of his jab, Vitali really never even through anything with any authority

the fight was only competetitive because Lewis came in out of shape...

but as soon as Lweis found his range, Vitali had NO ANSWER

why fight a guy again that you KOd like that? Lewis could have seriously injured or even blinded Vitali in a rematch, and i dont think Lewis wanted that on his conciouss

Personally I think Lennox should have fought Wlad not Vitali. Vitali put up a good fight, but Lewis busted his face open and TKOed him. They had to stop the fight to prevent permanent injury or even worse to Vitali, and truth be told they should have stopped it sooner, they let Vitali take too much punishment.. I think Wlad ducked Lewis in fear of his glass jaw getting shattered and in so doing failed to avenge his older brothers humiliating and crushing KO loss to Lennox Lewis. There was no point in a second Lewis/Vitali fight, the one the fans wanted was the other brother, but much like Mayweather/Pacquiao, it never happened.

Because he knew he would get destoyed just like he was beaten in the first fight before the ref stop the fight. If by fashion you mean that Vitali would knock his lights out, alright then.

He already beat him. He punched vitali in the face, and caused a cut that made it too dangerous for him to continue. He got lucky, but he won the fight in the worst shape of his career.

he didnt do an impressive job

not a huge lewis fan but he was having an off night and almost lost he could of beaten vitali in a rematch if he trained and was focused instead he ducked him for a rematch and retired was he scared
