I appreciate the fact that Tony was looking out for the fighter's safety, but my issue is that more and more referee's these days seem to be making decisions and choices that aren't theirs to make. There used to be a hierarchy with the corner and the fighter being able to make the decision themselves while the referee focused on enforcing the rules and ensuring both fighters abide by those rules.
As far as Angulo goes, it was looking like a straight up one sided defeat but he at least deserves to be able to finish the fight the way he wants.
That stoppage sucked.
Sorry, but I agree with Tony Weeks decision. I don't need to see someone die in the ring. Maybe if Angulo learned something called defense, he wouldn't give a ref the opportunity to stop a fight. Angulo was eating Jabs, Uppercuts, Straight rights, and Body shots all night long. He was nothing more than a punching bag. We've seen fighters die in the past for being punching bags.
I thought it was a good stoppage, and like nic said Hunter was going to stop the fight anyway..
Angulo can take it, but those are the types of fights where someone gets hurt. No sense in letting him take more punishment, he was getting the sh*t beat out of him and had no chance of coming back.
Did you want to see Angulo die or something??? Jesus Christ dude he was beaten like a dog for 10 straight rounds what the hell are you complaining about??? If that kept up he'd never come back from it. Virgil Hunter was about to stop it himself.
Wrong! He had every right to stop the fight. In fact, his number right is to protect a fighter from receiving too much punishment that he/she has already received.
Besides, if he wasn't going to stop it. Virgil Hunter was going to do it anyway.
If that was in the UK everyone would be going mad, British stoppage blah blah.
