Charles Sonny Liston 1962 vs Iron Mike Tyson 1988 15 rounds?

Hello Irene! Sonny Liston was one of the baddest men ever to step into a ring. He had an 84 inch reach, a jab tht would smash out your teeth. was the most intimidating fighter I ever saw, even more so than Tyson, and besides having that awesome punching power with either hand, was a good boxer as well setting up his power shots with those hard jabs of his. Mike Tyson was a very strong and compact fighter that pretty much fought out of a crouch and would bob and weave his way inside looking to unload his bombs particularly his devastating uppercuts. For a while and just like Liston, he looked to be unbeatable with his great speed and power but he never fought anyone that was a mean and devastating as Charles "Sonny" Liston. Just like Foreman had success against te powerful but shorter Frazier style wise, I feel the same would be the case with Tyson being the perfect opponent style wise for Sonny Liston. I don't believe that Liston would knock Tyson out early but that he would continually punish Tyson throughout the fight with that devastating jab of his cdausing Tyson's face to swell. Tyson would land some good shots of his own but Liston had a great chin and would be able to take it. I believe that the end would come in about the 9th round of a fairly close fight with Tyson being caught with a devastating hook from Liston as he was coming inside. He would get top his feet but the fight would wisely be stopped to save Tyson from further punishment.

Sonny Liston WTKO9

It'll be battle of stare down and intimidation for sure where Big Bear Liston was the king. IMO Tyson was the little version of Sonny and in almost every department Liston edges Mike except speed.

I doubt even the young and Prime Tyson can go 15 rounds against one of the hardest puncher of the game in Liston. I know Mike went 10 rounds against Tillis and we all know the difference between James and Sonny. I see this bout ending as soon as 6 round if Mike is willing to trade punches and he definitely will. KO in favor of Liston with Liston still staggering as Mike also possesses immense power

Tyson would be at a big stylistic disadvantage against Liston. Tyson's defense, while decent for a pressure fighter, was not impregnable. Even some of the club fighters that Tyson blew away didn't find him that hard to hit. Liston wouldn't have difficulty timing Tyson's head movement with his jab. He would also be able to land right hands and uppercuts regularly (Jesse Ferguson had success with his uppercut on Tyson before getting stopped).

Liston stops him in the mid rounds.

When Johnny Tocco, gym owner in Las Vegas was asked his opinion on the difference between Liston and Tyson, he responded by saying that Liston was miles ahead of tyson both in boxing ability and punching power and that Tyson wouldn't be able to intimidate Liston, but Tyson got frustrated when things didn't go his way. he sited "Quick" Tillis who lasted against Tyson. Tony Tucker, etc. When Tyson got frustrated, he'd abandon his skills and tried to load up with big right hands. Liston could beat him with the jab, the uppercut and would probably win via a TKO in about 6 rounds.

for me liston is way to slow to bother tyson ,as mean and tough as liston was tyson hit just as hard was much faster and had better defence .tyson took every thing razor ruddock had who was much bigger than liston and liston showed against clay/Ali he didn't have heart when it went against him ,if ali can ko liston then so can tyson .

tyson inside 3 rounds

The Charles Sonny Liston who demolished World Heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson on Sept 26,1962, at Comisky Park, Chicago, Illinois, in round 1 vs Iron Mike Tyson,, who annihilated Michael Spinks on June 27,1988, in Las Vegas, Nevada, in round 1.. The fight would be scheduled for 15 rounds, no three knock down rule. Who would win and why? Both fighters at their respective peaks.
