Is Bob Arum unfairly maligned? Afterall did he not create many of the greatest fights ever?

Yes Bob Arum made some good fights happen because he's a powerful promoter.

Floyd refuses to do business with Bob Arum because because of past disputes over money. Floyd claims Arum still owes Floyd millions from the fights with Zab Judah and Arturo Gatti so there is a lot of dustrust there ,as a result ,Floyd refuses to do business with Arum. http://www.scifighting.com/2014/01/01/22...

Arum has definitely negotiated some great fights in the past, but over the past several years, he's stood in the way of many great potential matchups with his outright refusal to co-promote with Golden Boy. And let's not forget that when the world was clamoring for a fight between Mayweather and Pac several years back, Arum insisted that Pac would not submit to random blood testing, which put an end to negotiations. Then when there was buzz about the two possibly fighting in 2012, Arum once again shut the door by demanding that a stadium be built for it first. It was only after Pacquiao suffered that devastating knock out loss at the hands of Marquez that team Pac finally became seriously interested in pursuing a fight with Mayweather, because the damage to his legacy had already been done and he had nothing else left to lose.

@Ray "Pacquiao-Oscar, Pacquiao-Mosley, Pacquiao-Marquez 1&2 were all fights between Golden Boy & Top Rank & between HBO & ShowTime. "

Pac-Oscar was before Arum's refusal to negotiate with GB. And the fights with Mosley and Marquez (III, IV) were not co-promoted. Arum made them sign with TR in order to get those fights.

To me Bob Arum is just a scapegoat for the Floyd fans. Floyd doesn't want to fight Pac so his fans needed someone to put the blame on.

I guess so, yes. Let's bear in mind that Bob Arum is first and foremost a businessman so his main goal in his promotions is to get the most profit for himself and Top Rank. That's a given, and I have no problem with that if, in the process, we get to see some truly great fights.

I do think the fight didn't happen because of the fighters, not the promoters.

Pacquiao-Oscar, Pacquiao-Mosley, Pacquiao-Marquez 1&2 were all fights between Golden Boy & Top Rank & between HBO & ShowTime.

There's a long list of co-features between the 2.

What people should understand is that when a fighter becomes a world champion he becomes the BOSS.

Bowa's promoters wanted him to fight Lewis, he said no and he vacated the belt. Ali-Frazier 1 happened because both champions wanted it to happen.

I don't think Mayweather-Pacquiao happened because both fighters wanted leverage. Both of their ego was too inflated.

Its just floyd alibi that the fight will not happen between him and pac because of arum...Arum my @ss... Arum wants this fight, because this fight gives arum a lot of money...floyd is just scared...

Copy and paste from a previous answer:

Bob Arum made some of the greatest fights of all time like Sugar Ray vs Hearns 1 + 2, Duran Leonard and what many believe to be the greatest fight ever Hagler vs Hearns. I don't get why people think he is responsible for big fights NOT happening when you consider his track record of making huge fights.

Pretty sure he was involved in the Thrilla in Manilla, when him and Don King put their differences aside and worked together. Key phrase "Put their differences aside" lol

He s no doubt a despicable old buzzard but he makes super fighters, no one can deny that. The blame for this mess up and the Floyd-Manny buffoon-storm failure lies mainly with little Floyd.
