Boxing: What's your take in Floyd's latest statement??

Posted at: 2015-04-20
Many people forget but Floyd previosly vacated 2 belts at 147lbs; in 2007 he vacated the IBO & IBA because prime undefeated Cotto was his mandatory challenger & in 2007 he vacated the WBC in 1 of his short retirements when Paul Williams was his mandatory challenger after avenging his only loss by 1st round ko.

When he fights a 1 dimensional paper title holder like Guerrero; it's because it is his ''mandatory challenger'' but when the opponent is the truth the mandatory doesn't matter.

I don't think that statement means anything at all. I doubt very much that Mayweather fears Pacquiao. I can't go into all the reasons why Mayweather doesn't want to, and shouldn't work with Bob Arum.

.

I can understand your frustration. As a fan, I'd love to see this fight. I think it robs boxing of an historical footnote if it doesn't happen. The BIG problem is that Bob Arum wants to play a bigger part than he deserves to play.

.

If not for his contract with Arum, Pacquiao wouldn't lose much if someone else promotes him. The problem is that he's tied to Arum and is FAR too loyal to him. He might earn a little less, that's debatable. The problem is that Arum has many legal ties to Pacquiao and Manny is no match for him legally.

.

Mayweather's position is FAR different. It makes NO financial sense for him to "work for Bob". He Doesn't Need Him At ALL. Mayweather has promoted his fights for years now. If you could consider what a promoter makes, what Arum would make and what Arum takes from Pacquiao, you will understand why Manny Needs the Money and why Mayweather won't work with Arum.

.

I hate this but, at the same time, I can understand why Mayweather won't work with Arum. The belts don't mean anything to high profile fighters. The organizations don't do much for the sport anyway.

.

Imagine if Pacquiao and Mayweather were not around. Do you think the WBC would do the "Fair" thing by the other fighters? I doubt it.

Well ,Miley Cyrus was supposed to be coming out carring Mayweathers belt but i guess that's not happening.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will never fight until Pacquiaos contract with Bob Arum and Top Rank expires the end of 2014 maybe Mayweather and Pacquiao will fight May 2nd 2015.

As if Floyd' gonna vacate the WBC belt than defend it against Pac LOL. But that's what i read between the lines.

Neither Floyd or Pacquiao need an alphabet belt.

The WBC making Pac his mandatory is hilarious to begin with, but not nearly as hilarious as people like you thinking it means something.

What's your take on Bob Arum having a chain around Pac's neck and walking him around like he's his dog?

Pac doesn't fight anyone unless Bob tells him to, and as we all know Arum likes to keep his pets in house.

Don't expect the WBC making Manny a mandatory to make any difference, Floyd could give two f*cks about a belt, as would Pacquiao, Floyd will save money by letting them take the belt.

I'm honestly not surprised at hearing this. The fight of the century has been talked about for almost 4 years now. One will come to the ring with a walker and the other on a scooter before this fight takes place.lol

On a serious note...I don't think anybody contradicts them self more then Floyd in any sport period.

If WBC thinks its that simple and if we fans think it is that simple, we are deluding ourselves.

WBC can definitely order Floyd to defend against Pacquiao as his mandatory but that fight cannot be made unless the two competing promotional camps agree to the terms and that include who will be the sole or lead promoter and who will get to cover the fight, whether the HBO or Showtime. It's a messy business as conflicting egos and interests get in the way for the umpteenth time..

It's nearly impossible enough to arrange a fight between the two without any title at stake, for Pete's sake!

Floyd won that WBC welter title over Zab Judah and even the WBC junior middleweight title over Oscar in the mid 2000s and he easily gave them up before choosing to retire

He again won the WBC welter title over Ortiz and the WBC jr middleweight belt over Alvarez and he easily can give them up again if he is pushed to defending these titles against foes he does not like.

He is just being himself. He will not waste another time going through the charade of another so-called Pacquiao fight talks that will definitely get nowhere again as long as Bob Arum is involved.

It's Def. a Riddick Bowe move. If not Cowardly, it's def. a stupid move. Floyd has what it takes to beat Pacquiao, but has stayed away from the fight. Floyd has hurt his image, for sure.

It's how boxing is today. Nobody cares about title belts anymore, especially with all these bogus organizations doling out these for a dime a dozen. The game is all about making money and promoters control it.

As a Floyd fan, I view the WBC move as a good thing because it makes clear to Top Rank and Team Pacquiao that Floyd is in the drivers seat of negotiations...

No professional boxer is a coward, especially one who has done all he has.

That being said...that statement is a bad look. He has to be aware of how this makes him look. I personally disapprove of this stance, if he sticks to it

“Everybody's talking about the title he’s (Pacquiao's) the mandatory. He can have the belt! A belt don't make me. A belt doesn’t define Floyd Mayweather,” Floyd said.

Can someone give this coward azz a fkng whip???

It's official, Floyd's legacy is ruined, he will always be known as a coward.

Smart business man

here we go again...
