Is it unfair to say Jumma is shot after his defeat by Garcia?

No, it's not fair.

Most boxing fans are usually cynical (I definitely can be), so when a guy loses, especially when he gets knocked out in three of his last six fights, many will consider him "shot" or "finished".

A lot of the time that may be the case, but I don't think that's what the deal is w/ JuanMa.

Look at his record. He fought nobodies up until his fight w/ Ponce De Leon. He crushed Ponce in like one round, and it was just quick work for him b/c he could hit hard and was faster than PDL, so when he landed first it was night-night.

After that he knocked out light punching guys like Luevano and Penalosa. Nobody was able to exploit his lack of defense/chin, until the Mtagwa fight when he faded and barely made it the whole way.

Concepcion dropped him around that same time, and he's basically a can that can punch a little, so that exposed the chin issue of JuanMa.

Rafa Marquez gave him a good fight but got beat up.

Then along came Salido. Salido could take JuanMa's punches AND fight back. Lopez couldn't keep from getting hit, and he couldn't take it. Same thing w/ the rematch, same thing against Garcia.

So that's what it is. On an ELITE level, if Lopez can't knock you out and you have some pop, he'll be in trouble.

IMO that's the way it's always been, we just didn't get to see it until he finally stepped up against real opponents who wouldn't fold after being hit and fire back w/ hard shots.

It wouldn't have mattered what weight Garcia would have come in at. He was ill in the weeks before the fight and probably still suffering from trying to make weight after the weigh in.

The problem is Lopez's lack of defense and movement. Garcia is to slick, to strong, and too accurate for Lopez. If they fought 10 times Garcia would beat him 11.

That said, Lopez is not shot but he is no longer an elite fighter. He is a dangerous puncher that could probably beat 80% or more of the fighters in his division, but not challenge the top level.

Yes Garcia had a small weight advantage, VERY small weight advantage, but that's what separates fighters. A good fighter can overcome a small obstacle like that. Lopez is not a good fighter. He lost to Orlando Solido and in my eyes Solido is a D level fighter. Lopez is also.

Garcia isn't even that good, he's just a much better fighter and that's why he won. It has nothing to do with the weight advantage and everything to do with the fact that Lopez had no head movement, he came charging towards Garcia's counters, and had no ability to adjust.

knocked out twice by a terrible fighter and then knocked out by a decent fighter. No, it is not unfair to say he is done because if he can't beat them then he might as well retire.

It's fair to say this. Three knockout losses will definitely hurt your mindset, if he wants to continue fighting. Last night, he looked pretty bad. No jab, No head movement at all, extremely off balanced. He just kinda lunged in with his wide hooks that got him countered every time. Mikey is a sharpshooter, Juanma was the perfect guy for him, who has shown very poor defense in his recent fights.

He could look good against a banger like Donaire. I think Donaire actually wants to fight Juanma (who wouldn't after his loss to rigo), but who knows. I remember when Juanma was thought to be the future of the featherweight division 5 years ago, now he seems just like a shell of what he once was.

Juanma was finished since Salido 1.

Juanma showed a huge problem, same problem in all fights I dare say... Terrible defensive movement. Juanma showed no head-movement or foot-work. He just stayed there. Not to mention his terrible balance. If Juanma would have been more focused on movement and cornering Mikey, then Juanma could have pulled it off. We all know Juanma has bomb power hands, if he had the movement to always land them...

My best tip for Juanma would be get training with Pedro Diaz(Rigondeaux and Cotto's trainer). Pedro is a boxing purist type of trainer. No doubt he would work Juanma's movement

Yes, it's unfair.

Lopez has been shot for almost 3 years now. He was never a great fighter. Top Rank tried too hard to make him the next Tito, but failed miserably.

Seriously, if Rogers Mtagwa gives you a run for your money, then chances are you are a c class fighter.

Dude he only outweighed him by 8 pounds calm down.

I don't think the majority of people thought he could beat Garcia, but the odds were even more heavily stacked against him when Garica came in over weight. Garcia was way too big for Jumma and it was no surprise that he beat him so easily.

Taking this into account, is it slightly unfair to say Jumma is finished?

What are your thoughts on this?
