Was Marvin Hagler really that good?

Leonard waited and waited for Hagler to slow down before he built up the courage to fight him. Hagler also beat Mugabi who was very feared and at the top of his game riding a ridiculous streak of knock guys cold. The wins you mention make Hagler one of the best middleweights ever. Yes he was that great.

Yes. He has other notable wins as well. The Hagler- Leonard was super close. He fought 3 legends. They weren't prime, but still super competitive. Hagler was ducked by everybody, for years, and Leonard didn't want a rematch. Highest KO rate ever as middleweight.

Nope

In my opinion he was one of the best and most feared fighters ever, not the best but certainly one of them

Look at his record. Most opponents on their are average. 3 names stand out.

Hearns, Leonard, Duran.

All 3 were bulked up fighters who started at least 2 divisions below Hagler.

Duran still took him the distance despite coming from 4 divisions below.

Leonard beat him after 3 years out.

Hearns also had him in serious trouble.

He was happy fighting blown up welterweights and nobodies for a decade. Why didnt he ever move up to be tested against someone like Michael Spinks at light heavyweight in the mid 80s?

Is he really that much of a legend?
