What great fights get NO RESPECT?

Griffith v Paret

Holyfield v Qawi

Quiroga v Kid Akeem Afinwosh

Abraham-Miranda

Clifford Etienne VS Lawrence Clay-Bey.

Ward-Augustus..

I think back in the gap it might have earned itself the FOTY, but I rarely ever hear anyone speak on this fight. It was a gritty, painful to watch fight, as are most Mickey Ward fights, and it was fun to watch.

The action was back and forth, and Ward's hook to the body (a punch that deserves mention along side the other great hooks in history, but like Rodney Dangerfield, gets no respect) is put on full display. Id encourage anyone to give it a watch if they've not seen it. Good effort from both guys. One of those fights where regardless of how you feel about either at a personal level, its hard not to walk away respecting both of them.

I'm not saying NO respect, but not the respect they deserve.

Danny Lopez vs Mike Ayala

Alberto Sadoval vs Alfonzo Zamora

Holyfield vs Qawi

Ray Mancini vs Art Frias

Just forgotten fights. All worth looking up.

David Tua VS Ike Ibeabuchi.

Michael Moore vs. Bert Cooper both were down in the 1st round and more than once in the fight

All great fights get respect, that is why they are great, but public perception and media distortion tend to deny some their rightful due.

The one that sticks out for me is Andre Dirrell's stellar performance against a then highly rated slugger Arthur Abraham during that 168 lb. tournament a few years back. Dirrell was almost the reincarnation of Sugar Ray Robinson that night, boxed brilliantly and was destroying Abraham. Abraham's corner poured water on the floor intentionally to slow Dirrell and give their power puncher a chance, Dirrell slipped in it, Abraham dishonored himself and got DQed for his cheap shot, and Dirrell never got the credit he deserved for the beauty of his work that night. Honestly the media made Andre Ward one of boxing's P4P best as much as Ward's obvious talent and skill and the circumstances behind Abraham's DQ and the robbery in England against Froch derailed the equally talented Dirrell's career. Such is life, luck plays a role, and Dirrell's luck was bad. Still I give Dirrell the respect no one else does, he was as good as Ward until the Abraham cheap shot, damn shame really.

I just saw Carlos Zarate vs Alphonso Zamorra, the classic bantamweight slugfest, and it is one of the greatest battles I ever seen. Why doesn't it get mentioned more I will never know.

Tony Jaa vs 100 men

khan vs maidana

I never hear anyone talk about Acelino Freitas vs Jorge Barrios. Most definitely one of the best fights I've ever seen.

It was bloody, violent, they knocked eachother down twice (four knockdowns total), massive changes in momentum, Barrios classically trying to wipe his bloody face off on the refs sleeve, etc.

Round 11 itself was something special...that punch Freitas hit Barrios w/ at the bell was one of the loudest and hardest punches you'll see.

Not saying this fight doesn't get respect, but nobody ever mentions it as a classic.

What other great fights fly under the radar?

jamie kavanagh vs john willoughby!
