Where are all the young heavyweights?

Won't happen. Partly because black athletic guys who are big now go into basketball or American football as the money is big and the danger lower.

Russian fighters have long amateur careers. These being the dominant groups at heavyweight, it will be difficult for us to get a new Tyson.

Would love to be wrong. A new young exciting heavyweight champ knocking people out is what boxing badly needs. The Russian types have turned it into a boring division. Klitchko, Klitchko, Valuev, Chagaev, Maskaev etc. etc.

Since Lennox Lewis retired, it has been dull as the champion was unclear as Lewis retired champ and the best fighters were dull to watch. Vitali wasnt too bad, but given he and Wladimir would never fight, we had a division where the 2 top fighters were always going to avoid each other and it killed it.

I used to dislike Lewis, but at least he had ambitions to fight everyone even when he had the titles. He beat Tyson, Holyfield, Vitali Klitchko and wanted to fight Bowe before that.

What about Hughie Fury. Made his pro debut March last year aged 18. He is 19 now with a record of 13-0. 8 KOs.

Amateur careers are lasting much longer these days.. Young boxers can expect to go to several Olympic games & Golden gloves tourements now.

Successful amateurs can expect a lot of interest from sponsors and backers... This equates to money, and money is what makes everybody tick.

probably because all the young boxers wanna get qualifications so they have something to fall back on if boxing doesnt work out

Now in days the youngest heavyweights I see are in their mid-20's and that's only a few of them. Most of them are in their 30's. where as before you'd see many heavyweights fighting in their late teens and early 20's. why is this not the case anymore? And what if there was a new heavyweight to come to the scene who debuted at 18-20?
