Will Mike Tyson go down as the last heavyweight champion who needed no Introduction in the civilized world?

Sadly, yes.

After, Iron Mike, Heavyweight no longer had a household name who's well known all over the world. They might be popular, but they aren't Pop Culture Boxing Icon like Tyson. But, this is the last heavyweight champion we're talking about.

After, Tyson, boxing had Oscar De La Hoya who needed no Introduction in the civilized world. Ever since 1997, Oscar was known by the world over, boxing fans or not. And later I believe Manny Pacquiao also needed no introduction.

So, for the heavyweights, it's true. But, for boxing, after Tyson there's Oscar De La Hoya and arguably Manny Pacquiao.

Yup. I don't think people will remember the Klitschkos. Some people might not even remember Lennox Lewis.

The fact remains, HW action is absolutely nothing compared to back then. The last great HW fight IMO was Lewis-Klitschko but I'm pretty sure no one even remembers it, only the hardcore fans of boxing. The last great HW fight that's possibly remember by all is probably Tyson-Holyfield II and for all the wrong reasons(ear biting) -_-

If not any of those, it's definitely The Thrilla in Manila.

@ Grizzly you're an idiot boxing isn't dead and their ppvs are selling much more than UFC ppvs.

@ Anton Yeah Mike Tyson is one of the last great and well known heavyweights but who knows there might be another heavyweight achieves greatness in the next decade or so

i highly doubt he's going to be the last legendary boxer, boxing doesnt die, its been like this forever a legend or legends rises & brings it to life and when their days are over it calms down for a couple years and then after a few years another legend or legends comes back and puts the sport back where it was. he's coming watch.

As sad as it is, boxing is dead. It is a niche now. Its all about MMA BRO! lol I'm so tired of UFC but it's what the people want. So to answer your question, yes Mike Tyson.

I know Foreman, Lewis and Holyfield were household names.

But my grandma who the only other boxers she knew the name of before Tyson was Joe Louis and Ali

In our lifetime there wont be a heavyweight who reaches the fame of Tyson is almost a certainty.

To me this is his legacy

What do you think?
