Tell him to go run some Erin's and go to the grocery store. Make a list and very specific foods and groceries you need and tell him to get just that. Next tell him to hang out with one of his friends maybe go out for a walk or for a quick snack or major for a jog.

I like Elle's idea of asking a friend take him out for a birthday pint. The friend could drive so as to control scheduling (he could claim he needs to be somewhere and say that it's time to take him home). Surprise!
Take him shopping at the mall.
Take him grocery shopping.
Go run errands.
Go to a pub.
Go to a friend's place to just stop by.
Ring up one of his mates and ask him to take him out for an hour so you can set up. He could take him out to the pub for a drink to catch up or something, just an idea.

I need an excuse to make him leave the house for about 45 - 1 hour so my friends can sneak in and set up the party decorations and food for 1.30pm on a saturday
I dont mind going with him but im struggling to think of anything! ive checked cinema times and nothing matches up! we cant go for lunch because im planning on putting food on for everyone.
We live in london, i've even tried to find short activities i can book for him but theres nothing!
