Because I think it hurts more and can be more accurate.
from vertical (unextended) to rotating arm to horizontal (fully extended), rotating lower arm about 90 degrees during extension, the twist creates more kinetic energy which in turn makes the punch harder, also the rotation causes the punch to go faster as it creates more momentum and increases acceleration
Palm facing down cos that's what I was taught n that's how u generate more power
I turn my hand so it's facing downward. It just feels right to me.
