Boxing: Could Pacquiao cause Floyd more physical harm than Cotto did?

Why or why not?

Given that Cotto was shot when Floyd faced him, I believe that Pacquiao could do more damage than Cotto, and could possibly win the fight.

It's a fight so anything is possible ,i think since Manny Pacquiao punches harder than Cotto ,Pacquiao is capable of doing more damage to Floyd than Cotto.

The reason Miguel Cotto did so much damage to Mayweather is because Mayweather stood right in front of Miguel Cotto flat footed ,if he would have fought Cotto the same way he fought Alvarez ,it would have been a shut out.

If Floyd fights Manny Pacquiao the way he fought Cotto ,yes ,Pacquiao would probably do more damage than Cotto did but if Floyd fights Pacquiao the way he fought Alvarez it would be a lot different because it wouldn't matter how hard Pacquiao punches if he can't land flush.

first Cotto is NOT Manny and only time would tell what would happen in each and every one of Manny,Floyd and Cotto future fights. Just because Cotto landed some GOOD shots on Floyd doesn't mean Manny will do so no matter what Manny is working with. Manny could do to Floyd what he did to Cotto or maybe Floyd could do to Manny what he did to Mosely after Shane landed a GOOD 2nd round. Both guys are working with Speed, Stamina, Lateral Movements, and Floyd has proved himself worthy against south paws. So imam say 50/50 chance Manny can do so.

Floyd won't lay on the ropes and try to fight in the pocket too much against Pacman. I don't see Pacman having success after round 7. Pacman may land a few punches early, and maybe a few desperate flurries may land later in fight. But, Mayweather's counters will prevent Manny from being as aggressive as people think he will be against mayweather. I for one think Manny will look like everyone else that faces him, outclassed.

Plus, I'm one that doesn't think Cotto did too much to Mayweather. If it wasn't Mayweather, it would be a normal fight. His standard is just that high. All you have to do is look at that huge red ring Cotto had over his left eye/face when he was back in the locker-room to know the real story.

Plus Sean, Mayweather will be faster at WW.

Yes. Pacquiao is a southpaw. Mayweather has problems with southpaws. Manny throws punches from unexpected angles and could catch Floyd where he least expect the punch to come from. Pacquiao has power on both left or right arms. And if Cotto was able cause problems for Floyd in the early rounds, Manny's durability in later rounds is better than Cotto. Floyd relies on his speed to avoid punches but his punches are not that strong. Manny has both speed and power.

BTW..Has Floyd indicated that he is willing to fight Pacquaio if he is not from Top Rank or is that just his fans presumption?

simple answer did floyd give up the belt when he was about to go against Cotto?. But when Manny was put as his No. 1 contender he is willing to give up his belt without a fight. Giving up the belt says a lot. floyd also said "self preservation" he only said that because of Manny.

For sure, the only reason Cotto couldn't do more damage was cuz he's not dangerous when he's backing up. Thats easy pickings for the cherry picking Mayweather boy.

Cat vs Snake. Cotto was a charging bull vs snake and you can eventually catch the bull in the throat with the uppercuts close up when he charges in.

There is a reason why Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought Miguel Cotto and not Manny Pacquiao up to now. I myself believed that Manny can do more than what Cotto did and I strongly believed that Floyd Jr. too, the reason why he used all kind of alibis just to avoid Manny. To say that he didn't avoid Pacquiao is absurd. Does all his opponent after his temporary retirement except for Canelo credible more than Manny Pacquiao? Floyd knows very well how to market himself and his fights but to say that all his opponent deserves to fight him more than Manny is crazy.

Why, The reason why he doesn't want to fight him up to now is a clear indication that Pacquiao can do more physical harm to him than Cotto. Think of Zab Judah times infinity. Manny can sustain for all twelve round what Judah did in the first few rounds disregarding that Pacquiao is a lefty.

I gave it to him the credit when he fought and won against Canelo even though it is at a catchweight. I am a liar if I say that I am not impressed but also at the same token, I am also wondering why he doesn't want to fight Manny when he can fight the way he fought Canelo. Is it probably he knew something that we don't know? They do the fighting and they knew very well what they can do the whole twelve rounds and whatever his reason why he can not fight Pacquiao is only him who knows.

This question brings me back Sean. Very interesting and thanks.

Yes Sean.

The mere fact that Pac battered Cotto in their fight is the glaring evidence. Cotto managed to hurt Floyd something that he (Cotto) never did against Pac.

Floyd is a very good defensive fighter, however pac was totally different monster than miguel cotto or any fighter floyd ever fought...I believed that pac would cause floyd more damage than miguel cotto...And i also believed that he could beat floyd...Pac is very aggressive in his prime, great speed, power, south paw...We all know floyd struggles when he fought zab judah in a few rounds...Because of zab speed, but he doesnt have the power...But pac is way better fighter, more dangerous, more power, better speed and aggressiveness..So there you go, thats how i understand it...

Floyd was willing to exchange with Cotto. And he has been so critical of that performance that you will most probably never see him being aggressive again. With Pacquaio, he isn't effective against boxers who utilise movement. Against Marquez, he struggles. With Bradley, he won but he definitely didn't look impressive because Bradley didn't stay in one place. He kept moving every part of his body.

In addition Pacquaio is smaller than Floyd in all physical aspects. I can't even remember the last time Floyd fought a smaller fighter and he didn't dominate.

This match isn't going to happen anyways. Floyd will not negotiate with Arum in the equation. Take him out and theres a fight.

Why or why not?

whats the point, all we can do is speculate and give opinions, w/c is already tiring as this Q has been asked for I cant remember how manytimes

the fact that floyd clearly stated to vacate the belt is pretty obvious he really wont fight pac

sean, you even expressed your disappointment on how floyd made himself lookef bad after giving such statement... make up your mind and stop fighting it, accept it...it aint arum, it aint the networks, it aint the promotion feud, it aint the random blood test, it aint the fight purse..ITS FLOYD!

It's a simple mathematics. Pacquiao hits harder. ( Like Mosley said ) If your opponent hits harder tendency is you will use more defense than offense BUT how can you defend your self properly if your opponent is not only a harder puncher but faster than you?

Look at Bradley and Marquez, They look more beaten after they won against Pacquiao...

The correct answer is yes.
