Boxing: Has Maidana entered the Mayweather Sweepstakes?

Does the win over a fighter who styles himself as like Mayweather...does he make sense?

Nope, Maidana has nothing to offer that's important. Hardcore fans may hate it or disagree, but this is 1st and foremost a business and Maidana struggles in key areas.

1. Overall name recognition.

2. Demographic- Not exactly a large Argentinian base here and while they are highly regarded amongst other Latin countries they need to be developed here to tap into that.

3. No economic gain for victory.

These are the same reasons why Sergio Martinez never was granted a major fight despite his actual ability. Promoters/managers rightfully often refuse to give poorly promoted fighters with nothing to offer economically a shot no matter how much they deserve it.

Mayweather vs Maidana make all the $ense in the world right now!

Sergio not an impressive last win

GGG too damn big

Lara not even a champion

Pacquiao top rank but maybe later

Bradley top rank but maybe later

Thurman just interim maybe later

Porter new champ no fans

Alexander out of the race

Khan fans but need redemption

Garcia great but never fought 147

Provodnikov risk never fought 147

Maidana has won his last few fights and is the current WBA 147 Champion who came off of an incredible win against who??????

His little brother Broner!!!!!!

My answer is "yes!!!"

Yes in terms of marketability by beating Floyd's "lil bro" and the nationality angle having Argentine support, but if they fight I dont think Maidana wins a single round against Floyd. One thing Broner didnt learn from Floyd is how to control the pace of the fight and be the ring general.

37 year old Floyd and damn near 50 year old B Hop can move economically around the ring and keep their opponents off balance better than mid 20 year olds Broner, Danny Garcia or Maidana.

So if they fight next year which is a big possibility, I have Floyd by a shut out

Yes all though I still don't think he is ready for it He still deserves to be Mentioned as a possible Opponent for Mayweather who else besides Pacquiao Deserves a shot. Khan? Garcia?

Broner being Floyds friend also gives Floyd reason to fight him. Don't think he has much of a shot but Since Top Rank and Golden boy seem they don't like making matches with each other and there is not much good fighters at 147 that Golden Boy has Yes I see it as a great possibility .

It does make sense. It would also have a pretty headline being something in the lines of; ''big bro to the rescue''.

With that said; i believe Maidana will give Broner a rematch. Broner said he wanted it & Maidana said he will give it. After the rematch [which Maidana will likely win] expect Maidana to fight Keith Thurman to determine the lineal WBA champion.

If Mayweather is smart he will fight Maidana directly after a Broner rematch, he will also campaign for Thurman to unify with Shawn Porter making a WBA & IBF champion, this would give Floyd another excuse to take an easy fight. First have a ''big bro to the rescue'' fight then have another fight against a unified paper champion [like Canelo].

As much as Broner likes to try to style himself after Mayweather, nobody out there can fight like Floyd, period. Actually Broner doesn't even fight like Floyd Mayweather. He just primarily uses the same defensive posture, but that doesn't mean he uses it to the same effect. Floyd is also able to fight out of multiple postures and make it look as natural as painting a canvas was to Picasso. Broner's never been able to do that, or really anything at all that Floyd has shown to be able to do on a regular basis. Therefore, this fight tells us nothing about a Mayweather math-up, nor does it in my opinion elevate Chino to that level just because he beat a Broner who happened to emulate himself after the best boxer on the planet. Good performance, but I never thought very highly of Broner, and I don't think a Maidana-Mayweather fight would be uber competetive to be honest. I wouldn't pay to see it.

Broner is not (nor will he ever be) as good as Floyd is/was, regardless of if he postures like him in the ring or not. I've always thought the comparison between the two is like comparing Superman to Mightymouse simply because they both wear capes. Know what I'm sayin?

Good performance from Maiana. He really beat the dog $hit out of Broner. I can't say I didn't want to see it happen. He kind of had it coming if you ask me.

Maidana is much easier to hit than Pacquiao, so why not? Floyd doesn't want anything to do with fighters that can take his 0 away from him. I'm sorry but any fighter that has their 0 is a bullshit fighter that looks for easier opponents while avoiding the threats. This Pacquiao/Floyd fight was suppose to happen awhile ago, but because one fighter clings onto his 0 it will most likely never happen. Will probably hear stupid **** about "Oh well, Pacquiao was ko'd by marquez and I beat Marquez" -Floyd.

Flomos even protect Fraud by claiming that if Fraud loses any time soon that its because he's older and not because a fighter had his number. Its disgusting, and we all seen this Fraud avoid threats such as Martinez, Margarito, Paul Williams, Cotto in his prime, and Pacquiao. Anyone deemed to be a threat by Mayweather Jr. and his lame posse they avoid. Floyd is a nerd and a loser that avoids the toughest fights.

I love Marcos and I want him to have all the big fights so he can make money while he's in his prime but sadly, I do not think a win over Broner changes things much. Whatever his position in the rankings before the fight, is pretty much the same IMO. Don't forget before this fight, Adrien was still mostly unproven and had only just moved up to Welter so beating him doesn't mean much.

most definetly.mayweather recently stated that he is looking to fight a solid opponent and that dosn't really describe amir kahn.i think mayweather would rather the maidana fight because it's just another gaiuranteed win with no risk involved cus maidna would have nothing but a punchers chance.that's no disrespect, maidanna is the the man but he just don't hsve the speed to beat mayweather. he is no doubt more deserving than kahn.still it's not the fight i wanna see.

I can see this...because may weather is always crying about he wants drug tests, won't drop weight etc. He does not want to fight Bradley I believe because he knows he would lose. So why not maidana if he believes he has a better chance? He is master of his beat advantages. After canelo fight that many believe he could of won if not for the nervousness and refraining he did..I'm surprised only one vote was a tie...it leaves a bad taste in my mouth so I would love like everyone else to see may weather get battered for obvi reasons

Does the win over a fighter who styles himself as like Mayweather...does he make sense?

I think he got a shot at getting the fight. Winning is a different thing but he can be named among those who are going to collect a paycheck.

It goes to show you that a fighter like pac is very capable of beating floyd...That is the reason why he keeps ducking pac even until right now...Adrien broner dont know how to duck fighters...Thats the only thing he did not learn from floyd style...If you cant beat him duck him...heheh...
