Boxing: Is Floyd Sr. underrated as a trainer?

Why or why not?

Yea I think so, to an extent. Sr. doesn't have a huge stable of fighters like other guys, but hey..Jr. didn't teach himself how to do what he does. That's putting it plain and simple for people to think about and let simmer.

Floyd was literally born to fight. He was in gloves while he was in diapers. Both Sr., and Unc have instilled good fundamentals, and taught him the importance of work ethic. An obviously naturally athletic Floyd took those things and ran with them.

Lastly...I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I think Floyd has the best defense I've ever seen because he is the most COMPLETE defensive fighter I've seen. That includes Whitaker, Pep, Wright, Toney, Locche etc etc. Floyd just has so many facets to his defensive game, and they're all polished. Floyd Sr. is the one always preaching defense right? There's your sign.

Some things you can't teach... I'll give Floyd jr. his just due on that one, as I've seen him do things that I haven't seen anyone else do (just little subtle things like throwing a straight, pivoting right, throwing a hook and then moving/controlling his opponent's arm..literally moves it with his glove in order to set up a right to the body, then a left hook just to occupy space in order to land another straight right up top. This is all in one sequence. It took about a second and a half and he did all that just to go body head with his right hand)[ 1:20 of round 2 Gatti ]. I've never seen anyone do that before. Having said that, a large part of what Floyd does is learned. You can tell by watching him. His technique is solid and he doesn't stray from it and get sloppy or undisciplined. Ever ever. There's something behind that.

Simple answer: Sure he is.

I guess I am a little bias because of the way the Ricky Hatton camp turned out. There was allegations of Floyd Sr not turning up on time to gym sessions, not wrapping his boxers hands properly, over training him....fall outs....

Of course Hatton was no angel either, and there was talk of Hatton pitching his trainers and conditioners against Floyd Sr too... Overall, it was not a very happy training camp.

Evidently, Floyd Sr produced his son in sensational condition against Guerrero last weekend.. That is a fact that cannot be denied. The boxer that faced Cotto was a mere shadow in comparison to the boxer that humiliated the Ghost last Saturday.

I thought Roger was good, looks like his brother is better....?

I think he is a good trainer well I KNOW HE IS A GREAT TRAINER . I don't think he is under rated he just happens to have the best boxer in the sport who happens to be his so. Do you know that there are a lot of people who wish Sr. was not little Floyd's dad? That is crazy man.

no he trained ricky hatton on his fight with manny pac I know hatton did not win but his flow was good he should train more people

Why or why not?
