Boxing: What is Golovkin's record vs top 10 Middleweights?

I know the answer. Do you?

Gennady Golovkin is (2-0) against top 10 Middleweights both Matthew

Macklin and Grzegorz Proksa is ranked #6 by the WBA. Again Gennady

Golovkin was scheduled to fight the former WBO Middleweight Champion

Dimitry Pirog last September who is a top 10 Middleweight, Dimitry Pirog

pulled out of that fight. For the past two years Golovkin's team called out

former WBA Middleweight World Champion Felix Sturm they were willing

to go and fight him on his turf in Germany, the fight never happen because

Felix Sturm team avoided that fight. So, it's not really that he's not willing

to go up against the best, elite Middleweights of the division. They are not

wanting to elect to have bouts with GGG. I think at this point the only true

Middleweight boxer who would choose to fight GGG would be Abraham he

isn't afraid to take those kinds of fights, he will fight anybody however, he's

lost his WBO Super Middleweight Championship to Robert Stieglitz. GGG

isn't promoted by Lou DiBella he's promoted by K2 Promotions which they

are both of the Klitschko brothers. I remember when he KO'd Ishida over in

that card in Monaco earlier this Spring the European commentators already

were referring to this guy being the next Manny Pacquiao! And they said the

phrase first way before Lucas Matthysse KO's Lamont Peterson. And I think

in my unbiased opinion, because I'm a true fan of the sport of boxing. GGG's

boxing style is superb he could defeat Peter Quillin, Daniel Geale and Martin

Murray and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. I'm a fan of Sergio Martinez so, I would not

want root against Sergio Martinez in that superfight he would be in there for the

fight of his life, would definitely need to earn that Undisputed Middleweight title.

If macklin is not in the top ten ranked then his record would be 0 - 0. Every single question the last couple of days by almost everyone has been about how he is already an all time great and how brilliant he is, and I just sit back and laugh. He is good. And can hit hard. But people saying he can beat hagler or wipe out the fab 4 make me lose faith in boxing fans. Btw how can he be WBA champ for 3 years and not have a mandatory who is top 10 ranked?

Last time I looked, Ring magazine had Macklin in the lower half of its top ten fighters in the middleweights. So Golovkin is 1-0 against a top ten 160 pounder if we are to consider the Ring rating.

Gabe Rosado and Gregors Proksza are I think just still fringe contenders. Macklin aside from his gutsy stand against Sergio Martinez, holds a win another Ring top ten lister Felix Sturm.

Golovkin really has to fight and beat top rated middleweights as Daniel Geale, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and Peter Quillin to fortify his claim as a champion and as a possible P4P entrant.

lol boxrec rankings are a joke.

macklin is a quality middleweight. he should have gotten the decision against sturm and he gave martinez a tough fight, yet, golovkin absolutely obliterated him. the problem with dangerous fighters like golovkin is that other top fighters are reluctant to face them. for instance, martinez's own promoter has said in the past that he's too risky to consider as an opponent

Depends on who is ranking the top 10 middleweights. I think Macklin is like 9 or 10, but that's just me.

So he's 1-0 against top 10 middleweights IMO, at the most.

I get your point though...

EDIT: Ring and ESPN do. Boxrec is unreliable, they have Sam Soliman in their top ten lol.

Mattysse may be making his mark with the mainstream fans in recent months but most regular followers will have known of his devastating power for at least two years now. That and his lack of exposure early on means that he's had to take the long route and maybe not against all the top opponents. He's here now.

I know guys who fight like this, Pacquiao, Valero to name a few, don't always get credit for their technical ability and defense. Gennady shows little head movement when he comes forward and attacks but he's actually very careful with his footwork and keeping his distance most of the time. Early in the rounds he goes in and out so he can't get hit and only in the latter rounds when he's hurt his opponent and taken some of their power or confidence does he go in and allow himself to get in those exchanges.

Anyway, I'm not saying he's an elite fighter, only time will tell if he's good enough to beat the top guys,I'm sure he'll be able to hold his own and at the very least keep up with them. Nobody knows for sure, but for now I'm enjoying the show and have no complaints.

Now I know why you got the ire of the world shaker, Sean. Change your post, will you?

Id like to see him fight Marvin Hagler in his prime Hagler might get locked up for murder

never took you for a hater sean.i think you'v been defendin mayweather for that long it's turned you sour
