Critics will always be critics. After Cotto won against Canelo, there will still be some who won't be satisfied and will discredit the win but to answer the question, yes and I hope these critics won't ask for the Triple G as the gauge.
Martinez was shot and who doesn't? After Cotto loss to Floyd, Manny and Trout, was he not branded as shot? Betting trends rely on hard core's opinion that makes Martinez the favorite 2 to 1. This wasn't just based on Martinez ability, and past performances but also on his present condition. they were there getting informed on where Sergio was on his training and that is where they based their observation. We all knew that he got an injury but we also knew that he was fit to fight otherwise they won't allow him to be in the ring with Cotto. Do they try to mislead the public about the present condition of Sergio on his injury? I don't think so and with this, I don't see any reason why we have to discredit Cotto for the job well done and blame the injury of Martinez as the reason for his performance.
The boxing commission, team Sergio Martinez that includes his trainers, coaches and others knew very well where Sergio was in terms of conditioning and health or they won't allow the fight to happen. Sergio himself knew where he was in this department and he was even talking about respect. I am pretty sure this is not the respect he was hoping for.
Canelo might be the test needed for us to know where Cotto is but also expect the critics to remain critics.
