Do you think Canelo Alvarez is taking the fight with Mayweather too soon?

If here were to wait, he would be taking the risk of Mayweather looking old against someone else. If Alvarez were to beat him then, he would get no credit for beating a Floyd Mayweather that has shown his age. And so it would be the same pattern of him fighting guys that are past their prime. Mayweather is past his prime now but he hasn't really shown his age yet. He is still sharp, still strong. If he were to look like an old man against someone then the fight would no longer be big anymore.

I agree.

This is a tremendous fight on paper when you compare the two undefeated records, but what most people don't take into consideration is all the amateur experience that Floyd had in comparison to Saul Alvarez who for the most part learned as a professional.

Now according to Floyd's ShowTime deal he has five more fights to go and for someone at his age that's a daunting task. I think the smart move would've been to let Floyd fight maybe one or two more times so that Saul Alvarez can truly develop.

It really looks as though Saul Alvarez has developed as a marquee attraction and commercial superstar but as a fighter he's still has a little way to go. When you breakdown Alvarez's record, he's undefeated, he has forty something fights, but when you start looking at this opponents he hasn't really faced anything like Floyd Mayweather.

I'm excited about the fight however I know that Saul Alvarez is a few fights away from being ready for someone of Floyd Mayweather's caliber.

He had to though Canelo is a good young fighter who is only gonna get better with experience Mayweather is getting up there in age and if he waits any longer Canelo is gonna be very tough to beat.

I think Canelo has a chance if he get improve his game like he did between the Lopez and trout fights.

I'm of the opinion that Canelo is still 2 to 3 fights away from fighting Floyd and beating Floyd. The whole thing with the Canelo camp is their ego. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. who beat Roger Mayweather twice offered to help with strategy for Canelos fight with Floyd and Canelos camp turned him away saying "they don't need anyone's help" Julio picked apart Roger who taught Floyd the tuck and roll style. Big Mistake in my opinion.

Canelo has youth on his side and there is no substitution for youth, with the exception of experience. I'm hoping Floyd gets caught and waxed. Here's to hoping.

too soon?

Floyd is 36. most guys are shot and retired by that age

if Canelo aint ready now, do you want him to fight a 37 or 38n y.o. Floyd?

Mayweather would not take on Canelo if he's ready now. That's been Mayweathers stratedgy along in his fight history.

I think the best way to put it in perspective, when glen Johnson beat roy jones he didn't get the credit he deserved because traver had beaten him to it. If Alvarez waits a couple of fights, in that time someone could land a bomb on floyds chin. and any credit or legacy Alvarez would get from beating floyd would disappear.

Neah....i think Canelo really believes he could beat May even in his prime. He wanted the fight asap, before anyone can use the age excuse for May, if Canelo beats May that is.

Yes, but by the time he is ready it will be way too late for Mayweather.

No. If it is too soon, then WTF was draining Canelo for?

The kid thinks he's ready for anyone that he even gave Fraud the advantage by shrinking his azz. So lets give him the chance to show us what he can do.

I kinda feel like he is..of course its going to be one of the biggest PPV buys in this year for boxing..but I think Canelo should have had one or two more fights before stepping in the ring with Floyd..to me Canelo is good but isn't great..he is very young still and has a lot to learn.

I'm hoping manny pacquiao and mayweather will fight this year. and im so excited,.
