Does boxing help in street defense?

The problem that I have with styles is that theres a lot of people who depend on them, I believe that what really matters is the person. Now for your question; boxing in my opinion is one of the best things you can learn for a street defense outside of Jeet kune do (which I recommend because it's boxing but with everything else thrown in) Boxing will teach you how to take a punch and give it back 10 fold. Idealy your learning multiple styles but from boxing you learn all the basic fundementals such as what hurts someone (2 inch penetration on a punch, using your full body correctly behind a strike, how to deal with a punch coming at you without flinching, tactical things such as deflecting, destructives, ranges, parry and counter, where to strike, toughening the hands and correct hitting so you don't damage yourself)

I have been training for a long time now trying to build my own individual jeet kune do, just like Bruce Lee said to use what is useful and reject what is useless and Ive incorporated so many different arts into my style and I'm better than most of the people I train with but the problem is there are so many people who are kind of trained now that you probably will fight someone with some training, that's good for a boxer because kicks are so much fun to train that punches are often neglected so when I fight or train I am a little better than everyone at kicking but I beat everyone because I'm better with my fists, a good boxer can withstand a poorly thrown kick, and deal with another boxer. Ive seen first hand how kickers in America have such bad training, at black belt tkd tourniments they rarely understand distance, they throw needless kicks that put them in danger, if you have good footwork and timing you can do really well against many styles.

I would still suggest buying some shin gaurds and learning kick defense from muay thai or kickboxing just incase, youtube has a lot of videos that will teach you correct form and it sounds like you have someone to train with so both of you should learn what you can besides boxing just incase.

Another important thing is a boxer can close distance, if you fight someone on the street chances are they don't know how to close distance and will either do probing strikes or come in recklessly, a boxer can take care of both. Supliment some fencing, judo, Shotokan karate because its blocks can break bone. As good as you become depends on your dedication and training just protect your hands from injury, buy and wear hand wraps everytime because thumbs do not heal, if you hurt your thumb something will always hit it that will put you out of training for awhile.

that's a lot but I know there will be some opposing views for you to think about as well and most of them inexperienced or biased.

Boxing in no way, shape or form, translates into street fighting.

Street fighting, in its purest form has absolutely no rules. Punching is the least of your problems. Knives, bricks, sticks, glass, and of course the ultimate game changer, guns, are things you have to factor in.

No boxing helps when someone is trying to jam a knife under your chin and into your tongue thru your neck.

See on Youtube how one boxer took on a bunch of dudes. Gotta know how to punch and have accuracy and power and form to have done what he did to defend himself.

You need adreniline and anger to not feel those little girly pains. You think too much.

not if the other guy is not a boxer too.

i was wondering is boxing HELPS in a street fight, now obviously there are lots of other factors ( multiple people, alotta fights go to the ground ect) . but can u use some boxing in street defense? one thing id like to followup on this question is which techniques do you think would be effective in a street brawl and which do you think wouldn't? thanks

me and my cousin were just messing around in the backyard with no gloves and one thing i noticed did not work is the way u block cant be transitioned well without GLOVES. id block with my hands and for arms ect and man did it hurt. i cant imagine taking a full blown hay maker (which is all street fighters throw lol) with no gloves, it hurt cause there is no padding. i think coming in at angles, bobbing and weaving, rolling with the punches work well though. youre thoughts?
