I weigh about 170 at 5'8, could I and should I drop 35 lbs to be a lightweight?

I would say so. Just to put it in perspective, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya and Diego Corrales ere all taller and all began their careers at welterweight or below. At a weight of 170 lbs, that would take you to lightheavyweight and you are far shorter than everybody at that weight. Welterweight would be good for you, but you would probably be a killer at 140 lbs.

If you get to 135, you will need someone to carry you into the ring, because you will be too weak to walk.

Eat healthy, exercise, you will weigh what you should weigh.

If you are close to a weight limit you can lose a few, as in less than 10 pounds by sweating it off. If you lose too much you can not regain your strength for the fight.

In my opinion, one should fight at her/his natural fighting weight. That is achieved by:

1. eating a proper, healthy boxing diet, and,

2. working as hard as possible at a proper boxing training routine.

I'm 6'4' and weight 170 :O I need to start eating -.-

I doubt it; you'll be too weak

Im not lean, lean but Im not a fatty either. I can see my abs and im pretty fit. Ive lost weight to about 155 before and received comments like, "you look like your on crack" and "your too thin man". I want to start boxing next year, but I feel like Im still too heavy and would get crushed at this weight. Can I lose weight gradually to 135, while still keeping the power and strength?
