Is 31 too old to turn professional at boxing?

Matt,

At this stage in boxing 30 is the new 20. There have been a lot of "Late Bloomers" lately, perfect example is Sergio Martinez. You hard work will pay off and if you dedicate yourself to the sport and train hard good things will happen. You have to remember Matt, that boxing is a young mans/women sport and the sooner you make up your mind the better off you will be.

Good Luck Matt.

ITS NEVER TOO LATE!!!!!!

Sergio Martinez is turning 39, Juan Manuel Marquez is turning 40, and they are both in the top 10 P4P list!

I can tell that you are serious about this and you are training hard, which is for the better. Keep trying because its never too late for the boxing game

What kind of amateur background do you have?

Why would you fight at cruiserweight if you would have been a super heavyweight in the Olympics?

You sound legit though, which is rare on Yahoo answers.

Yes. It's not about your physical conditioning nor your skills, but rather about your opportunity for success. Your window of opportunity would be very small. I mean, you wouldn't get a title shot that easy, unless you have a very influential manager or promoter.

never too late

I know its bad, my professional coach told me that, but he says he can make me pro by then and he has trained some other good pros. He has also told me that if I applied myself and not taken a break I could have gone to the Olympics as a Super Heavyweight, yet at the time it followed a break from boxing for me. I hope it is the case that can still achieve something in the UK cruiserwieght division but wonder if I have left it too late. I am talented but started late and am training 5 times a week in personal 1 2 1 sessions plus. I will have also have to watch out for the new generation and that may have lost my chance. I am 29.
