Is boxing a good sport to take up for fun and get in shape for a female?

It's good to lose weight. But most people there (will be mostly males) take boxing seriously and even though they have fun, their motif is to master the art of boxing. If you go to a good boxing gym, your trainer probably wont want to train someone who is there just for fun to lose weight. I would advise to do something else- maybe a boxercise class or just join the gym or swimming.

Boxing is a very good one to do but also you could take up cycling, running, weight lifting, long distance, sprinting, gymnastics. Boxing does get you into a good shape if you don't give up as well as the others!

Hope this helped.

why dont you try spinning classes, plus if you dont want to box then go to a boxing class in a fitness gym not a proper gym and they wont make you fight, it gets you in the best shape you can be in if you eat healthy and work hard

It is a great way to get in shape with out even knowing it because you are too busy learning this very advanced and never boring sccience-Good luck!

Just go and punch the bag, don't go and fight other female boxers who probably have more experience and will most likely hurt you.

This past year I've gained 30 pounds and I want to get in shape. I hear boxing is a good way to do so. I'm thinking about joining a gym in the evenings. But I'm a bit apprehensive to join because I'm very shy and am a female. I'm afraid I'll be made fun of by other males in the gym. I get nervous at the thought of being put in a ring to practice (does that even happen when it's just for fun and not to go pro?) I don't want to join to go pro. I just want to do it for fun. I realize I have to face my fears. Maybe joining will help me get over them.

How can I get over this fear? Just go out there and do it???
