Really need some advice on buying these gloves!?

These gloves are fine to use for a heavy bag, but not necessarily for amateur boxing/sparring.

Since you are in Australia, and I am in the U.S., I will use AIBA (Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur, or International Boxing Association) Regulations for explanation purposes, assuming you want to eventually advance as an Amateur Boxer.

So, as far as bag gloves go, those gloves on the link you provided would be fine. Many trainers believe "the bigger, the better" when it comes to bag gloves.

However, you most likely will not be allowed to box or spar using those gloves in boxing. If I were you, if you are planning to compete in competitions, I would go ahead and get gloves that meet regulations.

AIBA requires approximately 10 ounce gloves in competitions, as do most any Amateur Boxing organizations. Also, the gloves should have a Velcro closing wrap, instead of tie-ups. And they should be thumb-attached gloves. I believe the actual term they use is "fixed thumb". But FYI, that just means your gloves should be the one's where the thumb is attached to the mitt of the glove, instead of independent. There is usually just a piece of material attaching them.

So, if you want to spar, and eventually compete at the amateur level, I strongly recommend that you go ahead and get a pair of regulation gloves.

I am going to go ahead and submit this "Answer". But I will come right back to "Edit" it, and add the link that you can read for yourself, containing all of the rules and regulations of amateur boxing, esp. glove size/type.

So, if there is no link below, check back in a few minutes...

http://www.aiba.org/documents/site1/docs...

Copy and paste the link above to go to the official AIBA Rulebook.

Then, to see the specifics on the official gloves, go to: APPENDIX J, Section 1

I hope this helps. Also, you can see an example of these glove on this link: http://store.titleboxing.com/title-class...

Good Luck!!!

If you can find Twins, you can usually find Windy Gloves those are use widely here in Asia. They are good quality and affordable. Those look like the same Windy gloves I used when I did boxing over 10 years ago, they should do fine for sparring, get the 16oz ones. Get proper bag gloves which are usually below 14oz, the padding is distributed to protect your hands better for the contact.

The dude has spent half his life in the boxing glove business. What he doesn't know about gloves is not worth knowing!

YUP. Muay Thai is basically Thailand Boxing so its the same gloves as in American Boxing. Only difference is the fighting stance and joints used. I say get them

Hi I'm 16, doing boxing now quite often and I'm hoping on doing fights next year so I take it seriously.

I need a pair of gloves though, can't keep using the gym's ones.

I'll be using them for bag work and sparring primarily, the problem is I live in Australia and all the decent boxing brands for gloves (rivals, grant, ringside etc.) are almost impossible to buy locally.

I've heard good things about Twins gloves and I'm highly tempted to buy these (store is close by)

But apparently these are Muay Thai gloves? Or designed for Muay Thai or something, will they serve my purpose for sparring/boxing training? For anyone who has used them please advise, please actually check the link too. Thanks everyone.
