Boxing: Can you think of a fight that made a fighter get better?

Bonus: Do you agree with Kellerman, that Rios/ Alvarado I made Alvarado become a better fighter?

I think that the first fight between Rios and Alvarado made Alvarado a better fighter. In their second fight Alvarado dug deep and put in that extra 10% and won. He kept to his game plan and did exactly what he had to do.

And their second fight has made Rios a better fighter. Rios will win the rubber match between these two. Rios will box more and win again. By KO.

I love these trilogies.

I can't think of any one fight that has made someone improve. Possibly, the 3rd Marquez-Pacquiao fight made Marquez more determined to win hence the work on the power and the outcome of the 4th. As for Alvarado becoming a better fighter, I have to say no. He just did what he had to do. He could have done it in the first fight too and was actually out boxing Rios until he stood toe to toe. I think that he just remembered what happened to him when he did not back away in the first fight and did not want to give anybody a reason to stop the fight this time. He isn't really any better, he was just more disciplined having learned through experience what not to do.

I don't think it neccessarily made Brandon Rios a "better" fighter ,i think it just brought out the best in him since he knew he was in there with a title holder and stiff challenge in Mike Alvarado ,so Rios was more motivated.

One I can think of is Steve Robinson vs John Davidson for the WBO featherweight title. Before the fight Robinson was an unknown journeyman with a 13-9-1 record, he took the fight at two days notice and became champion. From being a journeyman he proved himself a worthy title holder defending the title seven times over two years before losing to Naseem Hamed. After the loss he went on to win the European title and an Inter-Continental title.

In that one fight Robinson went from journeyman to champion.

BQ: It remains to be seen but considering he reversed his loss to Rios in his very next fight probably so.

Bernard hopkins vs Roy jones jr 1...I think the fight made bernard a better fighter, encourage him to work extra hard and fight with intelligence....Look at him now he is still winning.... Before the fight bernard is ordinary good fighter but after the fight he turns himself into a consistent great fighter....

i would say sugar ray leonard vs roberto duran l it taught leonard that he was a better boxer than brawler and not to fight the other guys fight .

also myself i got stopped in a early fight while trying to take a guys head off it taught me to box my why in instead off trying to ko everyone in the 1st rd .

BQ.. who knows yet we will have to wait and see but i think Rios will have to learn from the fight or he will never get near a world title with out learning to box a bit smarter .
