Boxing: Will Ali be just as great if he fought in today's era?

Yes he would be just as great. Todays heavyweights aren't as good as they were in the 70s. That was the golden era of heavyweight boxing.

Some people falsely assume that standards always rise with each generation. That may have been true going from the 20s until the 60s however after that there was very little increase in standards and actually a decline if you look at the very top.

Most boxing experts will tell you that the Frazier/Foreman/Ali era was the best not only for it's time but even compared to todays fighters.

Depends, if you say yes the you infer that the sport has grown and evolved in the time since he boxed. With improved training and dietary knowledge at their disposal (to name but two). One would think your average boxer from today would beat your average boxer from yesteryear.

Being said, people like Ali were at the top of the spectrum and can't really be generalised like that. Yes he would still be great. Just not as great.

He would still be great but it depends on which version of Ali. Cassius clay dances circles and lands hard while 5 year prison ali would have to use cageyness and smarts to defeat opponents. One thing is for certain, Ali would have amazing conditioning, he could take and punch and still fight for 15 rounds. Just because we have great dietary supplements doesn't make us tougher

He was the fastest heavy weight I have ever seen and could take a good punch, so I think he would do well in today's boxing too.

we have seen very large heavy weights, but I am sure Ali would tire them out and stop them as he did to other fighters. He could dance for 15 rounds.

Greatness is largely defined by the kind of adversity you face and overcome. Outside of Wladimir Klitschko, there is nobody today who would give Ali trouble because the heavyweight division mostly sucks. So no, he would not be as great if he fought today because there are no Foreman's, Frazier's, and the like to challenge him.

No.

There arent many advesaries who would pose him stylistic problems aside from Wlad who might even be able to beat a prime Ali.

There are no great heavyweight swarmers tosay, most heavyweights now cant even work consistently for 5 rounds without gassinf out and swarmers were rue fighters who gave Ali problems

Yes, he'd be just as good and score many victories against today's run of mill heavyweights.

Even greater, aimigo. Today's heavyweights are all muscle but got no skill.

Yes he would, what other HW boxer has the footwork and speed that Ali had? what other boxer has the jab and reflexes Ali had? even Wladamir is flatfooted (or at least stiff legged)

Yes because today's heavyweight is not as competitive back in the day.

Yeah. He was the absolute best and he can beat the new era boxers if he was still boxing today.

Definitely he would be! He is a big big brand name in boxing.

Yeap.
