He shut out Chavez and convincingly beat Oscar Dela Hoya but was robbed. If the judges hadn't robbed him so blatantly in the Chavez fight Sweet Pea would have gone on to super stardom and universal acclaim. But they did rob him, and he got addicted to toot. Dang.
Hopkins also has fought far far better competition than Mayweather.
I judge a fighter on the level of compeition they beat. It does matter who you faced if everyone is beating you.

B-hop loss to Taylor 2 times.
B-hop loss to Dawson.
B-hop beat: Wright, Cloud, Tarver, RJJ, Dela hoya, Trinidad, Pavlik, Johnson, Pascal.
Whitaker fought 7 hall of famers but he lost his fair share.
Floyd mayweather beat: Mosley, Alvarez, Marquez, Cotto, Dela hoya, Corrales, Ortiz, Gatti, Judah, Baldomir, Hernandez, Corley, N'dou, Manfredy, and Hernandez. He is a 8th. time champion in 5 weight divisions. He won 100% of his biggest fights.
BTW: Floyd mayweather did not fight Pac and Casamay.
B-hop did not fight: Andre ward, Adonis stevenson, or Sergey kovalev. Most fighters don't fight everybody. Including Leonard with Pryor!

Bernard Hopkins ,yes ,when you have to 20 straight title defenses in the same weight class you have no choice but to fight the best.

B Hop arguably had the toughest opposition level of any active fighter,
he fought: RJJ early then fought Joe Lipsey, John David Jackson , Simon Brown, Glen Johnson, Jean Pascal, Trinidad, Taylor, Joppy, Taylor, Eastman, Tarver, Winky Wright, Dawson, Calzaghe, Pavlik and Pascal.
Whitaker fought: Chavez Sr, Haugen, Jose Luis Ramirez, Azumah Nelson, Jorge Paez, Pineda, Buddy McGirt, Hurtado, ODLH, Trinidad
Just because some of the names arent well known as Cotto or Mosley, it doesnt mean that at the time they fought them they werent tougher. Genaro Hernandez isnt as well known but he was one of the best victories considering the time Floyd fought him
U will notice both B Hop and Whitaker fought many mobile fighters where Floyd fought very few of them and didnt fight the best mobile fighters around like PAC or Casamayor.
