Instead of weight classes what if we had height classes, who would be the ATG?

I like this idea a lot. Some great fights that could of happened.

1997 - tyson 5,10 vs jones jr 5,11

2013 - Chisora 6 ft 1 vs Hopkins 6 ft 1

1952 - Ray Robinson 5,11 vs Marciano 5,11

As for all time greats. I think Tyson, Duran, Fraizer and Jimmy Wilde would all be considered the greatest fighters ever as they always seemed to be up against people with a huge height advantage.

Interesting question sir. I will answer this later on today after church. Here is a list of fighters who were either short and great at their weight class or tall for their weight class and great:

Heavyweight:

Tommy Burns was only 5'7" tall and weighed in the neighborhood of 180 lbs but held the title for 2 years and had 11 successful defenses.

Rocky Marciano was 5"10 1/2" and weighed about 185 lbs yet finished his career as the only undefeated heavyweight Champ at 49-0.

Cruiser or light heavyweight

Dwight Muhammad Qawi was about 5'6" tall and was both the light heavy and cruiserweight Champ and is in the Hall of Fame.

Harry Greb. Though primarily a middleweight often weighed about 165 lbs standing about 5'8 and beat many light heavyweights and heavyweights during his storied career.

Here are some other great fighters and their respective weight classes:

Thomas Hearns: Won multiple titles with awesome power. Imagine fighting a welterweight over 6' tall!

Sandy Saddler, Great featherweight Champ standing about 5'8 1/2"

Carlos Monzon. Great middleweight Champ standing about 6' tall.

Bob Foster. Great light heavyweight Champ standing about 6'3" tall.

Joe Walcott (The Original) great welterweight Champ though only about 5'1"

Pancho Villa. Great Flyweight Champ. Only 5'0" tall.

Sam Langford. All time great despite only being 5'8"

Kid Chocolate. Great featherweight Champ standing 5'6" tall for that class.

Panama Al Brown. Great bantamweight Champ standing 5'11" very tall for that class.

Lazslo Papp. All time great middleweight and only 5'5 1.2"

Pascual Perez; Great flyweight Champ despite standing only 4'11"

People who would have done well are the likes of Mike Tyson, Rocky Marciano, Tony Gallento(punched very hard), Joe Frazier, Chuck Chavalo.

People who wouldn't have done so well are Kelly Pavlik, Klitschkos (fighting style doesn't suit tall opponents like themselves), Tommy Hearns, Enzo Macranelli, Alan Minter.

definatley muhammed qawi would be monster. he wouldn't have much competition though. pretty much just gavin reese and maybe Ronnie Corbett too if they could pay him enough to step in the ring.

also tommy burns who was the smallest heavyweight champ ever at 5'7. he was from the jack Johnson era but didn't give a crap who anyone was, he fought all races and all heights. he'd be facing lightweights in this style matchup.

Marciano and Tyson would do extremely well too, there wouldn't be many 5'10 guys who could take their shots.

My ATGs height-wise:

1.Henry Armstrong --won titles and campaigned from 126 to 160lbs.

2. Mickey Walker--won and campaigned from 147 to the heavyweights

3.Joe Frazier/Rocky Marciano --at about 5-10, they dominated the heavyweights in their respective eras.

4. Mike Tyson-heavyweights--at about 5-11, he terrorized the heavyweights in the mid 80s-early90s

5. Pascual Perez---less than five feet in height, he ruled the flyweights in his prime.

6. Manny Pacquiao barely 5-6, he won world titles in 8 divisions; he could be the top notcher in this list if not for the fact that he started out at light flyweight where he towered over most opponents.

7. Dwight Muhammad Qawi

8. David Tua

9. Pancho Villa

10 Ivan Calderon

if this were the case stocky fighters would dominate the sport(in most cases).men who were able to compete with men alot bigger than themselves would thrive

if height was a divisions deciding criteria sam langford would be known as inch 4 inch the greatest fighter to ever live

dwight qawi would be the greatest fighter,he was 5"5

Not all time but just for right now, Matthysse would have to be up there. He's apparently 5'6-5'7"

how could the idiots not mention the prince??

if fights were matched by height who would of been the greats ,fighter like tommy hearns wouldn't do well as he would be fighting heavy weights but dwight muhhamed qwai would be fighting light weights .

i've got a few in my head but won't answer my own question .....cheers
