Earnie Shavers (Early 70's) vs. Frank Bruno (Early 80's)?

Earnie Shavers early 70s would have stopped Frank Bruno in round 9.

Bruno's weak chin wouldn't stand against Shavers' power. And we all know Bruno can be cut so easily. Just watch Tyson's fights.

This fight will be so much similar with Tyson vs Frank Bruno I and II. Bruno would give Shavers some problems, but eventually get caught and cut very bad, that the referee had to stop the fight. Once Shavers catch Bruno, he would pound him mercilessly and Bruno would be defenseless.

Hey Johnnie. Once again, nice matchup.

Both men can punch, obviously Earnie Shavers being one of the hardest punchers in history. Many fighters such as Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes, and Ken Norton have said that Earnie Shavers was the hardest puncher they've ever faced. Muhammad Ali fought Sonny Liston and George Foreman. Ken Norton fought Gerry Cooney and George Foreman. Larry Holmes fought Gerry Cooney and Mike Tyson. All of these guys were fearsome punchers, so just imagine how hard Shavers punches.

Frank Bruno was a pretty hard puncher too, only having two decision victories in 40 wins. He was a decent boxer, and won the WBC Heavyweight title against Oliver McCall. He didn't do too bad before being stopped by Mike Tyson twice. He also got stopped by Lennox Lewis.

Just like you said, both men didn't have great chins. All of Bruno's losses were via knockout or technical knockout. Earnie Shavers was a bigger puncher than James Smith, Tim Witherspoon, Mike Tyson, and Lennox Lewis, the four men who have knockout victories over Bruno.

If Frank Bruno were to box Earnie Shavers the whole time, and keep tying him up like he did to Mike Tyson during some of the early rounds, he'd win this fight.

But, I think if Shavers lands one or two big right hands, Bruno will be down and out.

The fight.

Frank Bruno comes out sticking that jab of his, and clinching whenever Earnie Shavers tried to attack. He wins most of the early rounds.

In round five, Shavers lands a deadly right hand like he did to Larry Holmes. Holmes had the chin and heart to get up. Bruno could not get up from this right hand, and doesn't beat the ten count.

Shavers KO5.

Shavers' gonna knock the sh_t out of Bruno. One punch, 1st round knockout!

Even without his power, I think Shavers is the better boxer, and wins this by knock out or decision, what ever it takes.

i think frank would outbox shavers he had a great jab but it will be who lands first that wins , and i imagine shavers would get the ko ,but bruno could punch himself so it's not impossible that frank would land first.

In the early 70's Earnie Shavers hands had wrecking ball strength one good hook or haymaker would send anyone to the canvas. Shavers was a knockout artist, he wanted to end the fight in the early rounds. Shavers chin was not as strong as his hands or his heart. Shavers chin was not glass because he did win and take shots from some heavy hitters for ex. Ken Norton. His chin was untrustworthy you just never knew if he'd be able to last or not.

Frank Bruno during the early 80"s had enormous amount of power in his hands his hooks and straight punches put many opponents on the canvas. Frank Bruno was also a knockout artist and tried to end the fight in the early rounds. Frank Bruno's chin was nothing special but not bad just ok.

Both men had weak cardio skills

Bruno was faster but Shavers had more power and heart.

Who would have won this boxing match and why? Also I think they are both very comparable. What are some attributes, skills, advantages and disadvantages you think these two fighters had in-common with one another?
