How would Floyd stack up against the greatest Welterweights of All Time?

1) Stupid article because people give horrible reasoning as to how Sugar Ray Robinson would beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. It is very similar to how people said Manny Pacquiao could beat him but never really said how. The reasoning for Robinson as usual is "He's the greatest of all time", "He had power in both hands", "he is bigger than Floyd", "He matches Floyd in skill"

That reasoning makes no sense because on that alone, Floyd Mayweather dominates. People jsut look at Robinson as the greatest of all time and dismiss anyone else. Those people are blind.

2) Reasoning as to how Leonard beats Mayweather also makes no sense. Leonard has wins over Hagler, Hearns, Duran, etc. because they fought in his era. That doesn't make Leonard better in any way. The writer fails to explain how Leonard beats Mayweather.

3) Draw against Whitaker? they are both great defenders, but Mayweather is a much better boxer. He makes any adjustments needed to land punches and avoid being hit.

4) I don't even know why Mosley and De La Hoya are on there because he has beaten them both and called them out years before he fought either of them.

If people can't give logical reasoning as to how anyone beats Floyd Mayweather then they should just shut up.

The ten greatest welterweights of all time for me are Sugar Ray Robinson, Henry Armstrong, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mickey Walker, Thomas Hearns, Emile Griffith, Jose Napoles, Carmen Basilio, Kid Gavilan, and Barney Ross, I think Floyd has a shot against Ross, Gavilan, Napoles, Basilio and Griffith. But I think he losses to Robinson, Armstrong, Leonard, Walker and Hearns mostly on points.

I don't agree with the choice of the fighters and the results in some in the link.

As Much as i like Mayweather.... I dont thinkhe stacks up as one of the greatest welterweights of all time. He Only Knocked Out bums. Old and lower ranked people. Kinda like Rocky Marciano. He doesnt even got a Gold olympic for god sakes!! He has A Bronze xD so your argument is invalid Sir

Lets compare both men;

Mayweather;

Record at welterweight; 10 wins 2 kos 0 losses.

Height; 5'8''

Reach; 72''

Type; boxer

Competition; fought for the IBF, WBC & vacant IBO welterweight title. Never fought a universally recognized world champion, even below welterweight.

Robinson;

Record at welterweight; 121 wins 81 kos 1 loss [revenged].

Height; 5'11''

Reach; 71.5''

Type; boxer-puncher

Competition; Fought for the universally recognized welterweight world champion 1s, in total defeated 6 universally recognized world champions [ABSURD] but most were in middleweight.

Both fighters used cross-arm philly shell defense. This style was far more common in Robinsons era, where men like Charley Burley used it to better than Mayweather [can Mayweather effectively shoulderroll light heavyweights? NO].

Both Robinson & Floyd could adapt to any opponent, and both had problems with great swarmers in their prime [Castillo gave Floyd problems in both fights while Robinson had problems with several swarmers in middleweight]. This is normal, the weakness of a good boxer is always a good swarmer.

Conclusion; Robinson had a height & reach advantage. Robinson also had far more ring experience. He additionally fought far tougher competition, 6 universally recognized world champions against 0. People forget that at welterweight Robinson defeated Henry Armstrong who is arguably the #2 or #3 best p4p of all time but Armstrong was past it during this fight.

I don't see how Floyd, whos only fights at 154lbs have been a split decision and a competitive fight against 2 old men, could have defeated Robinson who was monstrously fast at his youth; www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPjYdyN3Xic

Size also makes a huge difference.

Example; Ivan Calderon, a slick boxer who's compubox statistics are comparable to Mayweather, dominated until he went up in weight and fought Segura who was simply too big.

This is why Floyd has had so much problems at 154lbs against older men, this is why he wants to fight Canelo in a catch weight, this is why he didn't fight Paul Williams when he was ''the man'' to fight 5 years ago.

Sugar Ray Robinson had similar problems when he went to light heavyweight, but from 140lbs-160lbs he did could man-handle opponents.

Robinson was too big & fast for Floyd to win in a jabbing contest.

Floyd avoids punches by landing one and ducking then stepping away, several of an old Robinsons biggest comebacks ended by him catching opponents who did this in the jaw with an uppercut.

No way in hell Floyd would have attempted to shoulder-roll Robinson during one of his combinations.

Sugar Ray Robinson ud or tko depending on how good Floyd could hold.

all those fighters will beat PBF! Viva Mexico
