Marvin Hagler vs Roy Jones (in their primes) ?

Hagler fought much better competition, dominated longer, was never knocked down, still has the highest KO percentage of any middleweight ever, was devastating right handed or southpaw and can brawl when needed. He also dominated as one of the smaller MW's in his time. Yes, he lost to another ATG in SRL but many including SRL thought it wasn't til he was past his prime. Jones Jr dominated against a much weaker era & his choice of opponents was widely criticised while he was in his prime. Yes he was a tremendous athlete but Hagler had a far superior boxing IQ. Finally, RJJ's chin is a major question mark. I'd go with Hagler in a 6th RD KO.

I'm a huge Marvin Hagler fan. But, I know how Roy fought back then. Against, dangerous opponents, he took a safety first strategy like what he did against Bernard Hopkins the first time they met.

Roy would turn it into a non-fight, and dance and poke his way to a victory.

Hagler couldn't prevent Leonard from showboating. There's no way he could do it against Jones. (If Hagler would've fought southpaw the entire time, and didn't try to prove he could outbox Leonard, he would've won.)

Hagler does have a chance. He was the meanest fighter I've seen. He would try to turn it into a brawl. If he can do that and stay on top of Jones, he could win. If Jones runs arounds and clowns, then Jones wins.

At middleweight Hagler wins. Jones was faster, but the constant pressure by Hagler means Jones would run out of gas in 8 to 10 rounds and not be able to finish the fight.

Hagler was always a blue coller fighter. Tough as nail. But was beat in his prime.

Roy Jones was the epitome of what a master boxer pumcher could be.

No contest. An easey UD for Roy.

And granted, Jones/Tarver was when Jones started losing his reflexes. It happens to the best. Even Ali.

Marvin Hagler

Great match up, Hagler is in my opinion the second best middleweight in history, behind only Ray Robinson. Unfortunately for both Ray an Hagler, you cannot beat what you cannot hit, and Roy was a lot bigger than both of them. Even though both Hagler and Ray could box circles around Roy, nobody in history had the speed and quickness of Jones at his peak. Unless either old timer could KO Roy, Roy would win the decision, Jones's natural dexterity trumps even the best boxing technique, it was a God given gift, not a learned skill, Roy was just born quicker and faster than everyone else.

There are lots of better boxers than Roy Jones Jr. but all of them would play hell beating Roy at Roy's peak, including Hagler and Robinson.

i was thinking about this the other day as i watched jones vs toney . toney couldn't get near roy jones and the speed difference was huge . now i don't really want to answer this as i might upset myself with the answer ( look at my avatar) ,but i will say that smart boxers troubled hagler .

Roy Jones could fight but he was busted with ped's so he isn't great in my book. Anyone can fight with peds
